Q: What are OTG ski goggles?
OTG stands for Over The Glasses. These are ski goggles that can fit a pair of prescription glasses underneath them. All goggles advertised as OTG aren’t necessarily designed for being worn over glasses. They are big enough to fit them so they are designated OTG. Purpose made OTG goggles will have features in their design to work with glasses. These goggles will be much more comfortable and do a better job of not fogging.
Q: Do OTG ski goggles work?
Yes, OTG ski goggles do work. Some work much better than others. Ski goggles designed to work around prescription glasses will work much better than those that aren’t. OTG goggles will have frames shaped for glasses, nose pieces with extra clearance. Ventilation on OTG goggles will move the air around your glasses as well as the goggle lens.
A high performance OTG ski goggle can be very comfortable to wear with glasses. It will have very good anti-fog performance even with a pair of glasses in it. Don’t let wearing glasses hold you back from enjoying a day on the slopes.
Q: Can you wear OTG goggles without glasses?

If you like that style and fit feel free to wear them without goggles. If you are a sometimes contact lens wearer you can wear the same ski goggles when your not wearing glasses.
Q: Can you wear ski goggles over glasses?
You can wear OTG ski goggles over prescription glasses. If you have smaller sized glasses you may be able to wear some non-OTG goggles as well. OTG ski goggles will have larger frames and earpiece cutouts to work with glasses. OTG ski goggles will be more comfortable when worn with glasses.
Q: Can you get prescription ski goggles?
Currently, you cannot get prescription lens ski goggles. Ski goggles all have lens shapes that do not work well as a prescription lens shape. The closest you can come to true prescription ski goggles is using a goggle prescription adapter. These are a plastic glasses frame with spring loaded tabs that fit into a pair of ski goggles.
This fixes the lenses into the goggles a short distance from the goggle lens.
The advantage is that the prescription lenses won’t rub against the goggle lenses. The lenses rubbing together will scratch both lenses and wear off any coatings.
The disadvantage is that you need to bring along a set of glasses to wear any time you take your ski goggles off. Any time you go inside the lodge to take a break or sit down and eat.

Q: How do you ski with prescription glasses?
You can ski with prescription glasses. You have 2 options. Ski with your only your glasses on. Ski with a set of OTG ski goggles over the top of them. If you find a good set of OTG goggles that fits you well and fits your glasses well they will work well. OTG goggles can have anti-fog and color clarity as good as regular ski goggles.
Wearing prescription glasses should not be a reason you stay away from skiing. There is a set of OTG goggles out there that will work for you.
Q: Can I get OTG Goggles with a built in fan?
Yes, you can get OTG goggles with a built in fan. Smith has made both their I/O series of goggles and their Knowledge OTG goggles with fans. They are currently not available but you might be able to find some somewhere. They should release more fan equipped goggles in the future. Fan equipped goggles are very popular among heli and cat skiers.
Other brands than Smith have made fan equipped goggles as well. Most of the larger frame sized goggles will work OTG.
